One of a pair of epaulettes belonging to Captain G.O. Lempriere. Epaulette of wide gold lace over sheet metal. The strap is edged with dull and bright twisted purl which is bordered on either side with small, thick twisted gold wire. The crescent is edged with twisted gold purl, alternating dull and bright, wound around a wood core and bordered on either side with bright twisted gold purl. Attached to a bonnet are twenty large gold bullions on the outside and 19 small bullions on the inside. Applied to the crescent is a flat silver-coloured base metal foul anchor. Above is a silver-coloured base metal crown embellished with red fabric. At the end of the strap is a small gilt brass button of the following pattern: rope twist outer border, raised flat burnished inner border encircling a raised foul anchor below a crown on a lined ground.

Underside: The strap of the underside of the epaulette is covered with watered blue silk, while the padded crescent and bonnet are covered in blue tabby weave silk. The bonnet is edged in blue velvet. At the top of the strap is one eye and there and additional two at the bottom, which retain their blue tying tapes, the ends of which are bound with metal aiguillettes.
