A view of a waterspout (faint) off Harwich. The view of Harwich was taken from the starboard side aft of the funnels on board HMS 'Aurora' (1913), a light cruiser. The view of Harwich includes the (right to left) Church of St Nicholas, the Town Hall with the Pier Hotel and Angel Pub. The 'Aurora's' boat booms are extended and the aftermost davits are swung out and empty, as the seamen had been landed for a route march.
The photographer was serving on HMS 'Aurora' (1913), a light cruiser based in the Harwich Force during World War One.
