A view from the control top of HMS 'Aurora' (1913), a light cruiser, looking forward over the forecastle deck. The Deperdussin Monoplane No. 1378 is lashed to the trial runway in front of the Bridge while the ship is underway before the flight test. Four sailors are on the deck and some officers can be seen on the Bridge.

The Deperdussin was successfully flown from 'Aurora' on 4 November 1915 by Flight Lieutenant R J J Hope-Vere. According to her ship's log Aurora carried out aeroplane experiments in the morning of 4 November 1915.

The negative has a few small blemishes on it that do not materially affect the image.
