Preparing the Deperdussin Monoplane No. 1378 for launching off HMS 'Aurora' (1913)

A view taken from the starboard bridge wing on board HMS Aurora (1913), a light cruiser, looking over the forecastle deck. The ship is underway. The Deperdussin Monoplane No. 1378 is being prepared for launching from the sloped wooden runway. The propeller has yet to be attached (obscured by the wings?). A number of sailors and officers are standing behind the breakwater near the 6 inch gun watching. The bottom left of the image is very dark as it is the canvas screen on the Bridge.

The Deperdussin was successfully flown from 'Aurora' on 4 November 1915 by Flight Lieutenant R J J Hope-Vere. According to her ship's log Aurora carried out aeroplane experiments in the morning of 4 November 1915.
