A view from the port bow of the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913), as she approached the North Lock at Chatham Dockyard from Short Reach. The chimney of the engine house can be seen on the left between North and South Locks. In the background is No. 3 Basin. An unidentified officer is standing on the forecastle just forward of the anchor hawse pipes near the bow fairleads.

Aurora's log records her entering dry dock No. 7 at 545pm on 20 April. She left Chatham Dockyard via North Lock on 4 May 1916. [TNA, ADM 53/34495]

The negative has a number of parallel scratches down the image an scuff marks.
