The dog, previously on the lap of one of the mandolin players can be seen (blurred) at the bottom of the photograph [see N22681]. Two of the crew (dressed as women) are holding up a notice board. Written above and below an outline of an Iron Cross with 'W II" [possibly referring to Wilhelm II of Germany] are the words 'HMS AURORA. CONCERT PARTY [Iron Cross] FOR VALOUR 1916". The occasion is described as Sports Day, although N22681 describes the event as Regatta Day.
