Looking aft from the foremast as the 'Aurora' (1913) turns to port during speed trials.
A view from the control top on the foremast looking aft at the wake of the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913), turning to port (left) during speed trials. The black smoke belching from the fore funnel partially obscures the view. The portside rear-most 4 inch gun can be seen trained forward with the 30ft motor pinnace attached to davits and swung inboard.
HMS Aurora left Sheerness having been refitted at Chatham on 17 May and proceeded at high speed to Portsmouth. The next day was spent conducting mine laying trials off Spithead. [Ship's log, TNA, ADM 53/34496].
The negative has some light scuffing.
