Looking across the funnel caps from the foremast on HMS 'Aurora' (1913) during speed trials
Taken from the foremast search light platform looking aft along the line of funnel caps on the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913), during her speed trials in Black Deep. She was underway at 25 knots. Black smoke is pouring from No. 2 (middle) funnel partially obscuring the view.
HMS Aurora left Sheerness having been refitted at Chatham on 17 May and proceeded at high speed to Portsmouth. The next day was spent conducting mine laying trials off Spithead. [Ship's log, TNA, ADM 53/34496].
