Lieutenant Geoffrey D'O. Earwaker descending the quarterdeck hatchway ladder on the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913). The ship was in dry dock at Devonport being fitted out for service. Earwaker was appointed to 'Aurora' on 8 August 1914. The photographer was standing beside the hatchway looking across to port. Behind Lt. Earwaker are two fitters, one of which is sitting while the other is holding a paint pot close to his face. In the background above the level of the dry dock are some sheds.
