Medal commemorating Our Lady of Guadelupe
Religious medal belonging to Dr Attracta Rewcastle (1897-1951) the first woman to be commissioned as a naval officer (acting surgeon-lieutenant RNVR). Obverse: A monstrance between two kneeling angels. The monstrance and the wings and haloes of the angels are gilded. Inscribed: 'LAUDETUR SANCTISSIMUM SACRAMENTUM ALTARIS' on a scroll above. Reverse: Our Lady of Guadelupe - an image of the Virgin Mary within a mandorla, standing on a crescent moon and crowned by cherubs. Legend: 'R.S. DE GUADELUPE ROGAD P. DOSOTROS.' The medal is in frosted silver suspended from a white ribbon. In box of issue.
