Acting Assistant Paymaster R. R. Wallace and Lieutenant B. G. Scott, RNVR, on the quarterdeck of HMS Aurora (1913).
Acting Assistant Paymaster Richard R. Wallace and Lieutenant Bertie G. Scott, RNVR, standing in conversation between the after six inch gun and the blast shield on the quarterdeck of the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913). The photographer is standing on the starboard side next to the gun shield looking forward towards the superstructure. The bolts exposed on the deck reflect alterations to the ship, possibly at Chatham Dockyard.
While at Chatham Dockyard between 27 April and 16 May 1917 Aurora was refitted, which included mine laying gear. Mines were embarked on 13 May and the gear tested. At Portsmouth Aurora conducted mine laying trials on 18 May and then unshipped the mining gear on 21 May before shipping the mine rails the following day. [Ship's log, TNA, ADM 53/34496]
