A cadet pretending to kick Acting Assistant Paymaster R. R. Wallace on the quarterdeck of HMS 'Aurora' (1913)
A cadet pretending to kick Acting Assistant Paymaster Richard R. Wallace from behind on the port side of the quarterdeck on the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913). Richard Wallace is standing next to the after 6 inch gun shield looking towards the camera and laughing. In the background over the stern is an obscured view of the starboard bow of the battleship HMS 'Duncan' (1901), which was in Reserve at Chatham Dockyard from 10 April 1917.
The cadet has been identified as 'Buttelstone' or 'George Crossmith', but neither surnames feature in the Navy List when he would be expected to have had a promotion to sub-lieutenant or lieutenant.
