Figure

A white porcelain figure of a contemporary sailor wearing buckled shoes, wide trousers with buttoned flies, buckled belt, waistcoat, long jacket with three slits behind and buttoned slashes in the cuffs, neckerchief and tricorn hat. He stands with his left hand on his hip, his right tucked into his waistcoat and his right foot extended. The figure stands on a square base with a support behind. This is a relatively early representation of an 18th century seaman in his occupational dress.
