A vert distant starboard broadside view of the light cruiser HMS 'Penelope' (1914) underway at sea on a mine laying sortie. In the distance on the horizon off her stern is HMS 'Boadicea' (1908) a scout cruiser converted to a mine layer. The photographer was standing on the light cruiser HMS 'Aurora' (1913).

The negative has a fingerprint mark in the top left corner and some slight shadowing on the non-emulsion side.
