Portrait medallion
An oval black jasper portrait medallion depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The portrait was modelled by John de Vaere in 1798 and shows Nelson after the loss of his arm in 1797 wearing the star and sash of the Order of the Bath. 'Nelson' is incised on the reverse and the impressed maker's mark. The medallion is mounted in an oval gilt frame.
