Portrait medallion
An oval dark blue jasper portrait medallion depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The portrait was modelled by John de Vaere in 1798 and shows Nelson after the loss of his arm in 1797 wearing the star and sash of the Order of the Bath. The blue colour is only on the surface of the ceramic body. The medallion has two pierced holes in the reverse and has been mounted in a black oval wooden frame. The maker's name is impressed on the reverse.
