Portrait medallion
An oval blue jasper portrait medallion depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The portrait was modelled by John de Vaere in 1798 and shows Nelson after the loss of his arm in 1797 wearing the star and sash of the Order of the Bath and the Naval gold medal. There are two pierced holes on the reverse. The medallion has a gilt brass surround and is mounted in a rectangular ebonized wood frame. A label printed with Earl Nelson's arms is stuck to the back.
