A section of submarine cable. Inscribed at the bottom of the cable are the words "SHORE END SUEZ". The core consists of seven copper wires coated with four layers of gutta percha alternating with four layers of Chatterton's compound covered with a cushion of tarred jute. The outer sheathing consists of ten iron wires covered with tarred hemp and compound.
