Portrait medallion
An oval black basalt portrait medallion with a relief depicting Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The portrait was modelled by John de Vaere in 1798 and shows Nelson after the loss of his arm in 1797 wearing the star and sash of the Order of the Bath. There are two large pierced holes in the back and the medallion is mounted in a beaded, gilt wooden frame. The maker's name is impressed on the reverse.
