The steamship War Helmet (1917) sinking by the stern.
A port bow view of the steamship War Helmet (1917) sinking by the stern after being struck by a torpedo. The bow is out of the water with the stern submerged to just aft of the funnel. The ship was in ballast at the time she was torpedoed by the German U-boat UC75 at 0545 on 19 April 1918. The crew were rescued by two HM ships and taken to Portsmouth.
The photograph shows the dazzle camouflage pattern, espcially around the bow and the area amidships.
The annoation on the print is incorrect. The ship was not mined but torpedoed.
