Jar
A brown, salt-glazed stoneware jar, which probably held spirits, excavated from a well or cess pit behind the 'Plume of Feathers' public house, Greenwich, during building work in 1983. The name of the retailer 'H BENTALL WINE & SPIRIT MERCHANT 18 CECIL ST STRAND' impressed below the neck. The handle is missing.
