Destroyers of the Harwich Force in heavy seas on patrol.
A view taken from the stern of the light cruiser HMS Aurora (1913 looking aft towards two destroyers battling heavy seas. The ship directly behind the Aurora is partially obscured by the deck fittings and a large wave breaking over the unidentified destroyer's bow. The two destroyers are showing their recognition triangles, which were specific to the Harwich Force.
The photographer was standing in front of the portable stowage area for the 16ft dinghy looking aft. In the foreground can be seen the after skylights, the bollards with the towing cables attached, and a covered roll of cordage.
