A Tongkung type junk anchored at Singapore
A close port side view of the forward part of the hull of a Tongkung type junk anchored at Singapore, taken from just abaft the beam. She is ketch rigged and the upper part of the mainmast is out of the picture. The method of construction is clearly shown, including the iron strapping holding the top three strakes together. A steel anchor is fitted. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.
