The forepart of a Tongkung type junk alongside a landing stage at Singapore

A close-up view of the forepart of a Tongkung type junk moored alongside a landing stage at Singapore. The photographer is very close to the port side of the hull looking forward and to starboard showing the decked forecastle on which are two windlasses and a central bitt. The vessel has a bowsprit with a timber platform under it. The mainmast is fitted with a loose-footed sail but most of it is out of the picture. The official number is painted on the forecastle beam and it may be 159286. In the background are the buildings of William Jacks of Malaya Ltd, steel suppliers. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.
