On board a Tongkung type junk at Singapore

On board a Tongkung type junk moored bow-on to the shore at Singapore. The photographer is on the port side of the hold looking forward and to starboard showing the decked forecastle fitted with two windlasses and a central bitt. The vessel has a bowsprit with a timber platform under it. The base of the mainmast is on the right with all of the mast hoops gathered at the foot. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.
