The bow of a Tongkung type junk dried out at Singapore.
A close-up of the port bow of a Tongkung type junk moored bow-on to the shore at Singapore at low tide. The photographer is looking aft and to starboard from alongside the bowsprit showing the stem, forefoot and hull completely dried out. The bowsprit has a timber platform under it and the vessel is equipped with two steel anchors which are suspended from a beam abaft the stem. The mainmast has all of the mast hoops gathered at the foot and the upper part of the mast is out of the picture, as is the fore end of the bowsprit. A name is on the bow but it is not legible. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.
