A Twaqo type junk under construction in a boatyard at Singapore
Inside the hull of a Twaqo type junk under construction in a boatyard at Singapore. The photographer is looking aft from the centreline showing the vessel with the lower frames and many of the side frames in place. The stern is partially planked. The lower frames are made of sawn and prepared timber whereas the side frames are rough cut tree branches. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.
