On board a peaked stern Twaqo type junk at Singapore. The photographer is in the hold of the vessel looking aft and to port showing the aft bulkhead of the hold with the accommodation space above it. The forward bulkhead of the accommodation is decorated with paintings and a hand-operated pump in on the centreline. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.
