A starboard broadside view of a Tonkin type junk moored with other junks at Singapore

A starboard broadside view of a Tonkin type junk moored alongside other junks at Singapore. The vessel is of the three masted type with an overhanging platform at the stern and a perforated rudder. The lug sails on the fore and mizzen masts are stowed fore and aft but only the battens of the mainsail are in evidence and not the sailcloth. An awning is rigged aft. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938. Negative number P33995 is a similar view of the same vessel.
