A bell stemmed trading junk anchored in the Singapore River
A port bow view of a bell stemmed trading junk at anchor in the Singapore River. The vessel is three masted and her lug sails are stowed fore and aft. She has an awning rigged aft and a number, possibly her official number, is painted on her bulwark forward of the mainmast. The General Post Office building is in the right background. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938. In Waters' photograph album number 2 this image is described as "Zoosen at Singapore". The meaning of Zoosen has not been traced.
