A starboard side view of the Macao salt junk 1557 anchored at Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong

A starboard side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of a Macao salt junk anchored at Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong. She is three masted and her lug sails are stowed fore and aft and are covered with matting. She is in ballast and has an accommodation ladder deployed. Her port number 1557 is painted on the stern bulwark above her boat. The photographer was in the area in the following periods: 6 to 28 May 1937; 14 October 1937 to 8 January 1938; 14 April to 4 June 1938 and 8 to 12 September 1938.
