A model of the Foochow pole junk 3179 at Liu Kung Tao, near Weihaiwei
A port near broadside view, taken from ahead of the beam, of a model of the Foochow pole junk (trader) 3179 in the back yard of the Roman Catholic church at Liu Kung Tao, near Weihaiwei. The model is fully rigged and equipped and has occuli painted at the bow. The model was commissioned by Lieutenant D.W. Waters RN and was made by Tung Ya and his assistants. The vessel itself was photographed in some detail by Waters who was serving on the aircraft carrier Eagle and was in the area in the periods 3 June to 7 October 1937 and 8 June to 4 September 1938 (see negative numbers P34519 to P34540 inclusive)
