A close view of the stern of the Indian kotia type dhow Karimi (fl.1938) anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is directly abaft the stern looking forward showing the carved transom with the ship's name and port of registry prominent. she has two lines out astern and a small boat is alongside her port side amidships. The tops of her masts are out of the picture. Other kotia type craft are in the right background and a country brig is on the left. The photographer was taking passage in the heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time.
