On board an Indian kotia type dhow anchored at Colombo, Ceylon

On board an Indian kotia type dhow anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is looking aft and to port from the starboard side of the waist abreast the foremast showing the ship's boat on deck in the starboard waist. In the centre behind a crewman is the foremast halyard sheave block in front of the poop accommodation opening. The mainmast is stepped on the poop deck and behind it are a capstan and the ship's wheel. A small awning is rigged over the poop. The photographer was taking passage on the Royal Navy heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time. Negatives numbers P34306 to P34309 inclusive were taken on board the same vessel.
