On board an Indian kotia type dhow anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is looking aft and to port from the starboard side of the waist in the ship's boat showing the foremast halyard sheave block in front of the poop accommodation opening. A crewman is standing in front of the mainmast stepped on the poop deck and behind are a capstan, the mainmast halyard sheave block and the ship's wheel. A small awning is rigged over the poop. The photographer was taking passage on the Royal Navy heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time. Negatives numbers P34306 to P34309 inclusive were taken on board the same vessel.
