On board an Indian kotia type dhow anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is looking aft and to starboard from the port side of the waist showing the foremast halyard sheave block in front of the poop accommodation opening on the left and the stairs up to the poop deck on the right. A crewman is using a sewing machine in the crew accommodation under the poop deck. The photographer was taking passage on the Royal Navy heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time. Negatives numbers P34306 to P34309 inclusive were taken on board the same vessel.
