On board the Indian kotia type dhow Karimi (fl.1938) anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the forecastle abreast the foremast looking forward showing coils of rope and wooden spars on the deck. An oil lamp is suspended from the lowered fore yard. Another kotia is in the right background. The photographer was taking passage in the heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time.
