On board the Indian kotia type dhow Karimi (fl.1938) anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is standing on the forecastle looking aft showing coils of rope, wooden spars and a capstan on the forecastle deck. The foremast and the lowered fore yard are on the right. An awning is rigged over the waist and another is over the poop. The photographer was taking passage in the heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time.
