On board the Indian kotia type dhow Karimi (fl.1938) anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is standing on the poop near the ship's wheel looking forward to the waist. A capstan is fitted on the centreline of the poop and the mainmast is stepped ahead of it. awnings are rigged over the poop and the waist. A slatted seat is against the port side of the poop. The photographer was taking passage in the heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time.
