On board the Indian kotia type dhow Karimi (fl.1938) anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is standing just to port of the centreline in the waist looking forward showing the cargo hatches and the base of the foremast. An awning is rigged over the waist abaft the foremast and a crew member is on the left preparing a meal. The starboard door to the forecastle is open. Another kotia is in the right background. The photographer was taking passage in the heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time.
