On board a five masted Pechili trader type junk anchored at Weihaiwei. The photographer is standing on the starboard side at the forward end of the poop looking aft showing the massive rudder post and tiller and mizzen mast on the centreline and the quarter mast on the right. A young man is ducking under a bamboo pole on which washing is hanging to dry. Firewood is spread about the deck. Two cargo steamers are in the background. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938.
