On board a five masted Ta-Pu-To trader type junk while under sail off Weihaiwei. The photographer is on the starboard side of the poop looking forward showing the mainsail and its sheets. Three crew members are in the port waist by the ship's boat. An oil lamp is fitted to the starboard bulwark in the foreground. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938. Negatives numbers P34355 to P34362 inclusive are on board the same vessel.
