On board a five masted Ta-Pu-To trader type junk while under sail off Weihaiwei. The photographer is on the starboard side of the waist abreast the foremast looking aft showing the base of the mainmast, the mainmast prop, the ship's boat, a capstan and the front of the accommodation shelter. The main halyard block is connected to the capstan. A crew member isby the accommodation shelter. Lug sails are set on the fore and mainmasts. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938. Negatives numbers P34355 to P34362 inclusive are on board the same vessel.
