Two sampans working at Tsingtao

Two sampans being sculled near the Royal Navy aircraft carrier Eagle (1918) at Tsingtao. The nearest boat is seen from ahead, has occuli on either side of the bow and has a crew of two. The other sampan is seen from off the port beam and also has a crew of two, one of whom is using the steering oar to scull at the stern. Both sampans have the number 1 in a circle painted on the quarter. In the background is the Eagle's captain's barge. The Eagle (1918) was at Tsingtao in the periods 22 July to 13 August 1937 and 17 August to 5 September 1937.
