Two sampans working at Tsingtao
Two sampans being sculled near the Royal Navy aircraft carrier Eagle (1918) at Tsingtao. The nearest boat is seen from fine off the starboard quarter and has a crew of two. The other sampan is seen from fine off the port quarter and also has a crew of two. Both boats have the number 1 in a circle painted on the quarter. An unidentified single funnelled warship with awnings rigged fore and aft is in the far left distance. The photographer's ship, the Royal Navy aircraft carrier Eagle (1918), was at Tsingtao in the periods 22 July to 13 August 1937 and 17 August to 5 September 1937. A vertical format negative.
