Dimly discernible in the right background are the Royal Navy heavy cruisers Cumberland (1926) and Suffolk (1926). The photographer was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938.
