On board the pole junk 1697 anchored at Weihaiwei. The photographer is looking aft from the forward end of the waist showing the anchor bitts in the foreground with a capstan between them and the mainmast. The mainsail is stowed fore and aft. Washing is hanging from a bamboo pole across the starboard side of the waist. The sliding doors to the chart house and the accommodation are open. Two or three crew members and a Royal Navy officer in shirt and shorts are on board. The photographer's ship was in the area in the periods 3 June to 7 October 1937 and 8 June to 4 September 1938. A vertical format negative. Negative number P34446 is also of this vessel.
