The bow of a south Weihaiwei fisher sampan in the coastal waters off Weihaiwei, taken from off the port beam. The sampan has an oculus at the bow. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938.
