A slightly distant port side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of a fully rigged and equiped model of a 'chicken' type sampan on a wooden stand at the Roman Catholic church at Liu Kung Tao near Weihaiwei. She has an oculus at the bow and her sail has seven battens. The model was commissioned by Lieutenant David Waters and was made by Tung Ya and his assistants. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938. Negatives numbers P34493 to P34495 inclusive are of this model which is held by the National Maritime Museum (reference AAE0164)
