Tung Ya and his assitants working on a model of the Antung trader type junk 953 at Liu Kung Tao near Weihaiwei

Three model makers at work on a model of an Antung trader type junk in a yard at the back of the Roman Catholic church at Liu Kung Tao. The man sitting on the floor is working on the well advanced model of the Antung trader type junk number 953, which is displayed on a wooden stand on a table. The man sitting astride a wooden bench is working on a block of wood. The bald-headed man sitting on a packing case is assumed to be Tung Ya. A series of models of junks and sampans was commissioned by D W Waters and made by Tung Ya and his assistants at the back of the Roman Catholic Church in Liu Kung Tao, near Weihaiwei. Negatives numbers P34513 to P34515 and P34518 are of the model of Antung trader 953. This model is in the NMM collection as AAE0201.
