The man sitting astride a wooden bench is working on a block of wood. The bald-headed man sitting on a packing case is assumed to be Tung Ya. A series of models of junks and sampans was commissioned by D W Waters and made by Tung Ya and his assistants at the back of the Roman Catholic Church in Liu Kung Tao, near Weihaiwei. Negatives numbers P34513 to P34515 and P34518 are of the model of Antung trader 953. This model is in the NMM collection as AAE0201.
